The Scanning FAQ - Intro Page

Author's Note: This site is an archive of content originally published on the Internet by Jeff Bone at the University of Alabama at Birmingham between 1990-1994. It is maintained here as a tribute to that pioneering work and the date of attribution is given wherever possible. While some of the information is clearly more than 20 years old, much of it remains valuable insight into digital scanning today.

This content was developed by popular demand from the gang at the PageMaker Listserv which came into being in 1989 as a USENET group. This scanning FAQ has been re-published more than 1000 times and with portions appearing in more than a dozen print publications, including "Real World Scanning and Halftones" by PeachPit Press in 1998. As the Chief Author/Editor, I want to take this opportunity to thank a number of people who have made this work possible and I will merely name them in no certain order: Peter Fink, Jerry Griffies, Henry Budgett, Geof Peters, Cindy Stone, Jeff Needleman, Chris Warnock, Stephen Keith, Ken Sloan. These individuals and the companies and institutions that they represent have been instrumental in both my work on this document and encouragement to complete it.
